Description

Allely House began its long & constantly changing career in 1902. Samuel Dawson Allely built it himself from heart kauri on its original site in Buscomb Avenue, Henderson, about 15 km from its current location. The house was added to slowly over the years, giving rise to differing forms of wooden trim in the building as fashion changed. The Allely Family occupied the home for over 70 years so when it was purchased by Lyn, Chris, Phil & Bonnie Lynch in 1981 the Allely name, despite it being a phonetic nightmare to relay over the telephone, was kept, lest divine retribution was forthcoming upon its demise.

The partners converted the old building themselves & the skills of father “Paddy” Lynch were press-ganged into service to create the bar & reception from the kauri planking that had formerly lined the kitchen. In 1987, a road was driven through the old Buscomb Avenue site in Henderson so the partners arranged to sell the building to the Selak family & move it to their beautiful vineyard in Kumeu. This site had been thoroughly planted for many years for just such an event. Consequently when the building was re sited, refurbished & reopened it looked as if it had been there for years. In 1992 the house underwent major surgery once again as the verandah dining room was doubled in size, outdoor facilities were increased & the “pavilion bar” was created with a cosy fireplace installed & big picture windows for view over the gardens.

By 1997 the need was there for further improvement so another major revamp was undertaken, this time requiring a complete rebuild of the verandah. The new verandah room is now fully enclosed with bi-fold windows across the front & a solid polished wooden floor giving greater flexibility for weddings & functions. At the same time landscaped garden was created including a fountain & Petanque terrain.

Allely House 'the vineyard restaurant' is only minutes from Auckland's city center. A scenic drive along the Northwest motorway & 6km down Highway16 will bring you to the door. The turn of the century villa is set in beautiful grounds and charming country gardens.

The style looks formal but in fact Allely House caters well to the casual diner, offering indoor & outdoor seating & a menu that gives the option of very light dining to the works.

Allely House has always been a passion for owner Phil Lynch and Family.
